The Fayette County Career & Technical Institute’s Barber program will prepare students to earn a credential to begin a career in barbering.    In the barber program, the student will look forward to learning the skills necessary to cut, shape, style, and color hair, learn additional grooming techniques such as facials and shaving services, scalp treatments, and more.  

This course is a 1,250-hour instructional program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills related to experiences in a variety of applications.  The student will learn about permanent waves, color, haircuts, shaves, facials (massage only), and shampooing.  Additionally, a student will be taught the state barber laws, rules, regulations, barber ethics, sterilization and sanitation, and skin and scalp diseases.  Upon completion of the class, the student will be eligible to take the Pennsylvania State Barber Exam.  Financial aid is available to those who qualify.

Cosmetology to Barber Crossover Program
This course is an instructional program of 695 hours that prepares a licensed cosmetologist to obtain their Barber’s License.  The student will transfer into the program with 555 hours with their cosmetology license.  The student will learn coloring, permanent waves, haircutting, shaving, and honing–stropping.  Additionally, a student will be taught the state barber laws, rules, regulations, and barber ethics. Upon completion of the class, the student will be eligible to take the Pennsylvania State Barber Exam.

Barber Instructor
Our Barber Instructor Program is designed for experienced barbers who want to take their careers in a new direction. This program provides the training and certification necessary to become a licensed barber instructor and teach the next generation of barbers. Upon completion of the class, the student will be eligible to take the Pennsylvania State Barber Instructor exam.

Articulation Agreements
